hypnosis as a mood - an invitation through expectancy
We can take the lead by putting ourselves into a focused absorbed state and let the client catch our mood. This can be something to play with in silence, or in addition to anything else we are doing.
Creating expectancy is one of the most useful starting points in any therapy since all problems bring a mood of resignation [or no possibilities] with them. Clients will hardly say that they have a problem and expect that at any moment it will resolve itself.
If we create a focused absorbed mood of expectancy, it can be so helpful for a client to catch some of our mood and also helps to protect ourselves from catching a client's mood of resignation.
Everyone benefits.

Haha oh the agony

As Michael Yapko says moods are contagious, it is good to be reminded that hopeful and expectant moods can be created by therapists consciously choosing to experience the mood they want their client to experience too. I see that this approach really is collaborative with both therapist and client working together to co-create the environment in which solutions can appear.
Bit like how I am feeling in terms of this learning.
I look forward to inviting more people to be hypnotized :) Expectations are a powerful powerful method. :D
Before each session - I set my mood. I make up my mind and then I do S/H, I imagine the session and also what I will be like. I found that doing this make a difference to my energy levels and as a result my mood.
Even those who come late - it gives me time to do this and to create a different mind set - my mind is then - so what if they are late it's more time to change my state and it's more time to make sure that my mind is functioning optimal to give them the best they deserve.
This speaks to me.
This made me smile or just invited me to smile either way it happened very fast and this I found amusing which is good. Pitch or tone can be so useful, so can images.
I've been playing with dwelling on clients likes, happy times .And as they are immersed in their positive resources it is contagious and my mood , hopefulness and sense of direction are stimulated and that becomes contagious back and forth. When they arrive and I hear the OMG sad story , I know we will find a +ve resource somewhere , and I can see now that my optimism about this can be helpful.
Sometimes when I bring a client into the office, I start with more smiling and talk. I then start altering my behavior to display a more somber pensive wonderment type of mood. Perhaps without realizing it they are catching my mood. I also noticed when I was an intern that I had a schedule of three despressives in a row one day and it bummed me out. My supervisor instructed me that depression is catching and if I could do it try not to schedule depressives in a row but break them up with other clients. So this mp3 made me think about this in more depth. Thanks Rob
Much better than being the dictator hypnotist. Thanks.
